Cass Art Birmingham window display

I recently showcased three paintings at Cass Art Birmingham. As a Brummie artist, this was an exciting chance to share my work with my local community.

As a Birmingham artist, getting opportunities to display my work in this city is really special. This is why I’m so thrilled to have been given the chance to showcase some of my paintings in the window of Cass Art store Birmingham in March.

Cass Art Birmingham: supporting local artists

It has been such a joy to see my artwork at one of my favourite places in Birmingham. The staff at Cass Art are always enthusiastic, knowledgeable and a joy to talk to, so I am very grateful for the opportunity they gave me.

They do a really great job of supporting the work of Birmingham artists like me, which is so important for anyone who is just starting out, or well-established.

The most exciting part for me has been imagining all the people who will have passed the display during the week or so it was up – what a great way to get my art in front of a local audience!

The paintings on display

The three pieces on the display were Summer Flowers, Lickey Hills, and one of my newest paintings, A Year In Flowers.

This latest piece is my first circular canvas and I really love the way it focusses your eye into the centre. It gets its name because it portrays the birth flowers of each month of the year, from January carnations at 12 O’Clock, to roses in June, all the way through to holly in December.

As a Birmingham artist, I’m really inspired by the area’s natural landscapes. While the Lickey Hills are slightly outside of Birmingham, they’re close to where I live and I visit them regularly.

I originally painted this piece for my Grandma and it was proudly displayed in her living room for her many guests to see. When she passed away last year, I re-inherited the original piece. It’s even more special to me now that the painting was able to be enjoyed by other people again, just as my Grandma had enjoyed it when she was alive.

Summer Flowers is a personal favourite of mine (and another that I can’t bring myself to sell!). It was the first in my circular flower series and has inspired a lot of my work since.

This painting really helped me find my niche, so I’m very glad to have been able to showcase it next to my other two pieces in the Cass Art window.

I’d like to give a big thanks to the team at Cass Art Birmingham, especially Bethany, for helping arrange this display.

Keep your eyes peeled for more displays from other artists from Birmingham at Cass Art in the coming weeks and months.
